Aside from deep benches in the M&A, private equity and dispute resolution disciplines, HSF Kramer boasts one of New York's elite bankruptcy groups alongside highly rated US teams in structured finance, and real estate. With over 350 attorneys in the world's largest legal market, our experience is broad-based and encompasses a wide variety of sectors.
Our complex litigation team represents foreign and domestic companies and individuals against federal criminal charges and investigations by the US Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other governmental authorities and regulators. We perform early case assessments so resources are not wasted on matters that can be resolved quickly; where cases should be litigated, we do so efficiently and successfully. We also advise on internal investigations, white collar criminal defense and related regulatory proceedings and counsel clients on compliance policies and procedures.
HSF Kramer’s deep roots in New York’s business community reflect decades of trusted partnership, leadership and civic engagement. Many of our attorneys hold influential roles across business, philanthropic and other organizations, extending our impact well beyond the legal sphere. Our real estate and land use practices have played a defining role in reshaping New York City’s skyline and neighborhoods, underscoring our ability to drive complex projects with lasting impact.
Our New York office is also the center of excellence for our Latin America practice, with a focus on disputes and major infrastructure projects in the energy, transport and mining sectors.
Our associates learn by working alongside more senior lawyers and get exposure to cutting edge industry issues and emerging specialty areas of practice. We consciously strive to provide hands-on, direct participation in legal matters. Our firm also has a long-standing history of providing pro bono legal services.

How pro bono work is assigned
Pro bono is an important part of professional development, offering opportunities for attorneys to work closely with supervising lawyers and gain valuable hands-on skills such as client contact, negotiation, and oral and written advocacy. Recognizing this, HSF Kramer partners with several outside organizations and clients on pro bono initiatives. We encourage and support attorneys to use their skills and commit a meaningful portion of their time to assisting low-income individuals and nonprofit organizations. We also encourage attorneys to pursue pro bono matters of personal interest because pro bono works best when it reflects the passions and commitments of individuals. Externs remain Kramer Levin employees with full salary and benefits, and time spent is credited toward bonus eligibility and class standing.
We have a long-standing commitment to addressing racial justice, asylum, immigration, and human rights issues. We have charted both legal and social courses with landmark cases in the areas of:
